The Atmore Public Library was recently awarded the Libri Foundation

BOOKS FOR CHILDREN Grant.  It provided approximately 67

much needed books for our children.

You helped provide these books by your Friends of the Library

membership donation earlier this year.

$350 of these funds were used to provide the grant's local match.

If you would like to send a thank you note to the Libri Foundation

you may do so at:  The Libri Foundation, P.O. Box 10246,

Eugene, OR 97440.  A plaque like the one below was placed in each book.

Homework Help A Click Away for Students In Alabama

Now students in grades 4 - 12 and college introductory level can go online for free tutoring after school by going to the website:

www.homeworkalabama.org

From 3:00 p.m. to midnight seven days a week students can get help with homework in math, science, social studies and English through the use of instant messaging and shared Web browsing.

Brought to you by Alabama Public Library Service, live homework help online is the latest in an ongoing effort by public libraries to provide assistance to both the students and the school systems of Alabama.

Once they log on, students select their grade level and the subject.  Tutor.com selects and trains the tutors, who are current and retired teachers, graduate students and college professors.  Every tutor must pass a security check.  In addition, before they are hired, prospective tutors submit resumes and teaching samples that show how they would help a child solve particular problems, complete technology training, participate in mock sample sessions, undergo a 30-day probation period and work with a mentor.

Library Offers Free Practice Tests

The Alabama Public Library Service has a statewide database for all public libraries allowing them to offer patrons interactive online practice tests at no charge.  Patrons can choose from more than 300 practice tests such as ACT, SAT, GED, firefighter, police officer, EMT Basic, U.S. Citizenship, postal worker, cosmetology, real estate sales agent and broker exams.  Please call the library to see if an exam you need is available.

You now have access to these exams at home. Just come by the library and let us give you a user ID.  It's that simple!  If you don't have a computer you may take these tests in the library.  You may select and take the test and get immediate scoring and detailed explanations of answers.
